Tim Stafford Surfboards

Mostly bonzer inspired creations, made in Cornwall. Designed, shaped, glassed, sanded, finned and finished by Tim Stafford.

I make boards that are easy to ride, that feel natural under foot. Most aren't conventional but they will help you reach that point where you stop thinking about what's under your feet and start to focus on where you want to go and how you want to get there. Why bonzers?

Always happy to chat about your needs and what would work for you but please initiate contact by email or Facebook... details on www.timstaffordsurfboards.com | Ride and glide.

Porpoise update

It’s still off with the fins, but i had an excellent session on it at North Watergate last week… it just flew.

I think the secret was the board, as is, needed to be ridden harder with the current fin set up to get the best out of it.

It’s still off with the fins but now i see this as just improving the initial speed and getting it planing sooner rather than anything more radical. As a shape it is incredibly manoeuvrable and harnesses loads of energy… a really fun board for the small stuff.

Freakishly good weekend…

Freakfish was getting respect again this weekend. Sunday night glass off sunset session with a few friends resulted in some high speed carves, in a way only a freakfish can. As a new design this has so much potential – truth is at my years I can’t really do it justice… young rippers and aerial artists required, apply via email :)

bonzer 6

Freakfish EVO6 remain my favourite and has a unique characteristic… extremely loose when you are going slow, and stiffens as you speed up. Biggest waves so far have been double overhead and loving it… which is kind of making me re-evaluate what i ride when it gets more chunky!… P1040224

Farewell to the POD

I just heard from Mikey that my trusty 6’6 Malcolm Campbell POD sold in Revolver the other day. Who ever you are who bought it – i hope you enjoy her as much as I did… From a remote right in north Bandah Aceh I named Dredgers to an amazing session at Treyarnon Point (the right!) summer 2008, the board never let me down, got in, made the drops, never span out… except the one time at Cellars when I airdropped and the board flipped over in the offshores, and one of the bonzer sides went through my buttock… the buttock pushed back and the fin came out the deck! I have photos of both but I'm not posting either.

Cheers and farewell POD.

EPS/Wood Cleanline bonzer 5

Not the nicest  material to shape BUT I think it all went well… by the time this one is coated in its wood skin by Glass Tiger I am sure it will be worth the effort. The hardest thing for me was having to shape whilst visualising the rails (1/2” wood laminates each side) – so the rails are all squared off and with very little roll under when shaped. Next it heads to Mark down in Falmouth to get skinned before we reconvene to do the rails together.

It’s a 6’4” Cleanline bonzer 5: Tim Stafford-Glass Tiger collaboration and heading up to Peter in Scotland. Hopefully it will get into some Caithness Glass before too long.

Glass Tiger EVO3

Last time i met up with Mark of Glass Tiger we discussed fins for a bonzer longboard he was shaping. I gave him the EVO3 template and positioning, and we discussed some changes to the centre fin template. Here are the results - nice one Mark, it looks epic.
